The Income Tax Department on Saturday raided three shoe traders in Uttar Pradesh's Agra, and recovered huge stashes of cash. The officials have so far counted Rs 40 crore, and the counting of the remaining money is underway, sources said.
The officials unearthed several bundles of Rs 500 notes from the house of a footwear company owner. Subsequently, bank officers and employees were called in to count the notes.
The Department conducted the raids on suspicion of tax evasion and possession of disproportionate assets.
