In a horrifying incident in Hyderabad, a man and his dog were brutally attacked while out for an evening walk. CCTV footage of the incident, widely circulated since Tuesday, shows five individuals beating the man and his dog with sticks, despite attempts by his family to intervene. The police have arrested five suspects, who have been remanded in judicial custody.
The assault left the man, identified as Srinath, aged 42, and his dog, a Siberian Husky, with severe head injuries. Srinath's mother, Rajeshwari, and his wife, Swapna, also sustained cuts and bruises in the attack.
According to the Madhura Nagar police, the assault was the culmination of a quarrel between two families that occurred on May 8. Both families had filed complaints, resulting in two FIRs being registered on the same day.
The altercation reportedly began when Srinath's dog allegedly barked and approached a neighboring family, leading to a confrontation. Srinath's family claimed that they were verbally abused and assaulted by the neighbors, while the neighbors alleged that they were attacked by Srinath's family.
The police officer stated that the recent attack occurred as a continuation of the previous dispute between the two families. The suspects, armed with iron rods and bamboo sticks, attacked Srinath and his dog in an act of revenge.
The accused have been charged with various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rioting and attempt to murder, as well as under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Srinath's brother, Madhu, revealed that both Srinath and Swapna underwent surgery for their injuries, with each receiving 10-15 stitches. However, the condition of their 18-month-old dog remains critical, as it is unable to consume food due to a broken jaw and a clot in the brain detected in MRI and CT scans.
